((I'm *really* bored today, so decided to do some writing to occupy myself. Please join in! Very Happy))

The air was still, save for the gentle waving of leaves overhead, where the breeze could still brush by. Summery and golden, the light filtering through the lace-work of branches cast shimmering patches of warmth on the forest floor, and all-in-all, it was a very restful scene.

There was one creature who was totally unaffected by the serenity of the wooded glade however, ignoring the fact that most small animals were taking the opportunity to nap in the midday calm. Aishae, a young adolescent 'Gryph, was on a mission.

Slinking silently through the patchwork shadows, the pretty creature was utterly intent on something that wasn't there. Big amber eyes scanned the branches above meticulously, hungrily searching for something she had been seeking most of her young life. ...A socit!

She could imagine them scurrying along branches, or darting through the trees like her mother's beautiful Fliit.

It would be a long time before she would ever find one, for sure...but that certainly wasn't going to deter her from looking.

And in the meantime, she was bound to find all sorts of trouble along the way...

((May I? A little late though...))

Despite the relative calm of the forest, Saga, the seraphim Glassgryph was not one to waste the summer day relaxing. He fluttered from tree top to tree top, looking for something to amuse himself with.

See, Saga is quite the goof ball most of the time. Not that he wasn't smart but he would rather play around than act like the young adult he was, much to the disappointment of his parents. Speaking of his parents, he hadn't seen them for some time now. He preferred to meet new 'Gryphs anyways.

Suddenly he dropped out of the trees to look around the forest floor. Mayhap he ought to go search for some food instead...He didn't see anything. He sighed slightly before flying up to the tree tops again. He'd find someone yet!

Or maybe they'd find him...

The sound of a hearty crashing noise suddenly shocked through Aishae, causing her semi-feline body to reflexively press against the forest floor. Something had dived out of the trees somewhere nearby--judging by the flash of color that she had caught out of the corner of her eye--and it nearly scared the life out of the attentive little female.

The adrenaline was quickly replaced by a burst of curiosity however, as the imagined image of some fantastic giant socit popped into Aishae's mind. It could be! There were new creatures being discovered all the time!

Bounding forward, Aishae ran through the brush toward the creature as it leapt back up to the treetops. She still couldn't quite see what it was, but that didn't deter her rabid curiosity and excitement one bit!

Little did Saga know he was being followed by a fellow Glassgryph. In his search for someone to play with, someone had found him first. He zipped from tree to tree, generally above the leaves, although glimpses of him could be seen from below.

He suddenly paused, realizing he wasn't 'alone' (really, who is in a forest?), but that another of his species was there. He chuckled, stopping where he was, hidden in some leaves. Would they try to find him? Or would they move on?

((Ooo! Pretty boy. Very Happy))

Seeing that...whatever-it-was...had stopped fluttering forward, Aishae halted in her tracks. Tucked up behind the foliage, the creature was well-hidden, except for the occasional glimpse of a scarlet feather or two. Those glimpses were the only reason the female even knew it was still up there.

She stayed in her feline crouch for a minute or two, barely daring to breathe, to avoid scaring it away. As soon as it seemed that the mysterious creature wasn't going anywhere however, she couldn't keep herself from creeping forward.

Unaware of the fact that it was watching her (beause it would have scurried away if it had, right?) she kept up her stealthy sneaking...even though her boldly colored feathers made awful camouflage. Slinking up the gradual slope of a fallen tree, she left the protection of the bushes, her eyes trained upwards. Soon, she was directly under where she knew the creature was, tail flicking behind her.

And then....she didn't know what to do next. It was high above her head, but flying up there seemed a terrible idea.

What if she scared it away? What if it was full of all sorts of fangs and claws and spikes??

Nervously debating over what in the world to do, Aishae lingered directly below the creature for several long moments...

((Thanks, so is your girl. ^^))

Saga held back a chuckle as he noticed her stop when he did. So she - for it was a female - had been following him, although the way she was acting suggested she wasn't aware that he was a Glassgryph. He watched her attempt to creep up on him, or rather creep under him. He assumed it was hard with those yellow tips of hers.

Once she was directly under him he pondered his options. Finally deciding upon an action, he swiftly dive-bombed her from the tree, halting his descent just before crashing into her. He hovered above her, two pairs of wings keeping him airborne.

"Watcha doing?" He asked curiously, fluttering away from her and landing on the forest floor. That was fun! ...He just hoped he hadn't scared her too much.

Aishae's life flashed before her eyes.

Crashing out of the trees, aimed at her throat, came the monster! Giving a terrified shriek, Aishae instinctively flattened herself against the fallen tree, and tried to dodge to the side...but there was nothing there but open air.

Claws scambling to keep their hold, the young female had several heartattacks as she fought to both hang onto her perch, and cover her head...or something.
It all ended with her eyes clenched tightly shut, wings ruffled awkwardly up around her shoulders and neck, and her limbs wrapped desperately around the slippery trunk beneath her.

It wasn't until the male spoke, that she realized she was not only still alive, but intact.

Socits can speak??

Looking up with wide eyes, she stared, dumbfounded at the fluttering creature above her...

...until she realized what it was.

In an instant, her expression flipped. One moment, awestruck terror...and the next?
Apathetic disappointment.
Straightening up and flattening her feathers as if nothing had happened at all, Aishae suddenly looked...bored.

"...Oh."

After her violent reaction to being divebombed, her brows now drooped in deflated sort of way. Flicking her tail, she sat and straightened her wings.

It was as if she had expected a great surprise at the door, and opened it to only find someone she'd seen everyday.
